When Someone Says “I Don’t Have Time”

Many people say they do not have time to reach important goals. In most cases, the real issue is not time. It is setting your priorities. We all receive the same twenty-four hours each day. The difference lies in how we choose to use those hours. When something truly matters, people usually find a way to make room for it.

Productivity is not about cramming more tasks into each day. That approach often leads to stress and frustration. Instead, real productivity begins when we decide what deserves our attention. None of us can do everything, but we can choose the activities that bring the greatest value and meaning. Successful people understand this. They focus on a small number of important tasks and spend less energy on work that offers little return.

I have found that values shape how I spend my time. People regularly make time for activities that reflect what matters most to them. Whether it is family, faith, health, or career goals, priorities guide daily choices. So when I catch myself saying, “I don’t have time,” I try to ask a harder question. Why am I avoiding this task? The answer often reveals that the activity is not important enough to me right now. Recognizing this can be freeing because it allows us to make intentional choices and focus on what truly matters.
