This is true. It’s impossible to get your information OUT once it’s in Evernote. Then they hike the price by 100% in 2023, and now again. I know a bunch of people who are finally leaving. Me too.

It truly is a disrespectful slap in the face. Honestly, who is going to opt for the Starter subscription; long-time users (easily have more than 1000 notes) not finding 200 worth the price go, and for students it will not make much sense either (1000 notes barely gets you through the first year) they already know at some point they are going to pay this insane price. This is bad for customer retention and acquisition.
In contrast to before, now paying customers are being phased out, not free-users. I believe many people are willing to pay 90-130 EU for basic functionality. And indeed, it feel like our data is being ‘held hostage’, although it is not the right word for it. But here is a strong coercive element to it.

I’m a Long Time User. This price increase hits me in the gut. I have to make a decision quickly and right now it is between dropping to the starter or leaving altogether. This is a giant increase. So I hope they are happy with losing me or getting only $99 bucks from me. The service is worth more than 99 dollars but not in the $240 range. I not only don’t give a rats ass about AI. I don’t want it. I suspect that is at least one factor in the new pricing.
I do not use AI period. As a writer I have a moral detachment from the whole idea of scraping the internet for material. I strongly support the various lawsuits pending against AI companies for copyright infringements so you can see I have no desire to support their practice and their massive negative environmental footprint. Not of the other programs that I have that have AI capacity are EVER uned by me. They are a large annoyance to work around. At 73 I thing regular internet searches are adequate. And besides being a senior I am in school working on a degree. That cost increase is simply prohibitive to me and I feel not at all worth the value. And I If may be so blunt, while have I have given Evernote high marks on it’s product, It has one of the WORST customer service experiances I have even known. Frankly, it’s customer service is NON EXISTENT. I have correspondence with the company from a year and a half ago that has never been responded to.
Let me go ponder if you get $99 bucks or if you get nothing from me again.

I WAS a LONGTIME Evernote user. I upgraded from the Free plan (when they made that plan useless) to the $30 annual plan, then the next year to $50 –
The following year, they doubled that to $100, and I left. I moved my notes to One note, only to have Microsoft hit me with a 30% increase for Office365 a few months later. In addition, the search in Evernote worked well for me, but the search in OneNote never seems to find anything!
I really liked Evernote – but the price increases are INSANE.
As a Mac / iPhone / iPad user, I’m going to try their notes App. and yes, I am cancelling Office 365.

I was shocked to see my subscription to increase from AU $159 to AU $309 p.a.; worse was that I only knew about this increase when I had the thankyou for renewing email. If I’d known in advance I would have been unimpressed; to be told about only after taking the payment prompted an immediate response: subscription cancelled, refund requested (and to be fair, processed immediately).
