Different Ways To View Your Notes in Evernote

There’s lots of flexibility built in to Evernote and that includes giving you a chance to view your notes in a few different ways.

Whether you are new to Evernote or just want to see how to use it more effectively, my course “Evernote For Beginners” will help.

We all work differently. And Evernote provides us several ways of doing things inside the app that we’re very comfortable with the way we see things.

I’m Dave Edwards, and today we look at the different ways you can view your notes. Maybe you only use it one way, well, let me show you some different ways, you might find something that you actually like.

This is my demo account. And I want to show you how you can change your note views. When you click on all of the notes that you have, you come up here to this goofy little symbol here, okay. And you click on that, View Options, and now it gives you this pop up, here you go.

So now you can decide if you want to display your notes in the card format, which now it’s changed all of my notes to the card view. If I want to click on snippets down, we go back into a more traditional side list. But as you notice here, the first sentence or two of each note is now displayed. Side list is just a list of all of your notes. And in this case, I’m also showing the up the date it was last updated. If I want to have a top list. Now it looks like you might have on on an email program where all of your notes appear at the top, and then the note that your highlighting appears below it.

So those are your different list views. Now, in your preview, you can decide if you want to display an image if you want to show the text or show your tags, or even show your reminders that this is somewhat helpful because without even having to click on the note, you will see maybe an image that’s especially helpful if you’re a visual person, if you want to see the text, or if you want to see your tags, if you make use of a lot of tags, then your tags would be part of your notes as well, where you can have it show reminders. It’s all up to you.

I like the list view but one of my clients likes the card view. I have another client who likes the card view because he’s a visual person and likes to preview the files rather than just look at the titles. Now if you want a different view for different notebooks, you can do that too. At the bottom of the note View menu, you can Save current view options for this notebook.

Before we go, I got an email from a viewer who said that she used to see her notebook list in the left column of her screen. But now when she selects all notebooks, it shows all of her notes. Hmm. I’ve not been able to replicate that problem, but I do have a few suggestions. To see your notebooks. Click on that little right facing triangle to the left of notebooks, and the notebook list will drop down or go up to View and choose zoom out. You can also check the View menu to be sure that the left panel is still selected or press F 10. To toggle it on and off.

Just give it a try. If you have an Evernote related question, send me an email Dave edwards@outlook.com or post a comment below.
