It’s being called “The Great Resignation,” as more than 4 million Americans (2,9%) left their jobs in August alone. Some did so because of family issues, a desire to continue to work from home, and others found jobs that simply paid more money.
This is good news if you are in the market for a new job right now. But there are some things to keep in mind.
You might need to show proof of vaccinations.
Many companies, particularly in health care, education, and government service, require proof of vaccinations. One recent survey showed that 33% of hiring managers will eliminate resumes that don’t include a COVID-19 vaccination status.
Where will you work?
Many companies still have their workers at home while others return to the office. Does that match your expectation? Other firms are increasingly hiring people from all around the country. Working remotely sounds like a good idea, but there is a certain feeling of isolation. Will you be satisfied with remote relationships?
What type of industry are you considering?
Some industries are doing better than others, especially those related to the pandemic response. For instance, warehouses, package delivery services, grocery stores, and healthcare providers may be hiring.
Are you ready now?
This is also an excellent time to begin the job-hunting process. Many hiring managers stop their recruiting efforts during December due to the holidays. During January, plans are made to open new positions, which means February is prime time for job hunters.
